Remember Dennis the Menace? Prof. VV Rao has redrawn from newspapers a series of black & white single panel comic strips of Hank Ketcham's popular character as bright and colorful acrylic works. Every student who has sat in Prof. VV Rao's MC class will fondly recall the session where he describes the funny story of his art teacher trying to teach how to draw the portrait of Gandhi and then goes on to effortlessly sketch the portrait himself. Prof. Rao has always been an artist at heart. Recently, he allowed the Finesse team to have a look at his sketch book and we are sharing his beautiful sketches with you. All sketches have been done with a ball point pen. Prof. Rao almost always travels with his sketchbook in hand, and mostly draws 'en plein-air' (in the outdoors). He believes that sketching outdoors is the best way to train the eye to observe and to experience nature compared to drawing from photographs. In the next post we will be sharing Prof. VV Rao's watercolor and acrylic works. On the first day of the Joy of Giving Week at IIMA, Prayaas in collaboration with Finesse organized “Let’s Paint”, a drawing and painting competition for kids. The event was conducted as part of the “Share a Hope” initiative, where Prayaas kids were encouraged to bring other kids from their locality to spend a day in the IIMA campus. These kids were given a tour of the IIMA campus by the Prayaas kids followed by a discussion on the importance of education, which was then followed by a drawing competition. For nearly two hours in the evening, the kids were immersed in creating their artworks in the Louis Kahn Plaza of the IIMA campus. The quality of the art works produced were exceptional and in many cases very thoughtful. The event was a wonderful platform for the kids to interact with one another through the medium of art. Finesse in collaboration with Insight 2013, conducted a Drawing and Painting Competition for School students. More than 300 kids participated in the event, sponsored by Navneet Publications. The following topics were given to the students, Classes 1 to 3: Festivals of India Classes 4 to 6: Rural India Classes 7 to 12: World in 2050 The students were highly appreciated for the quality of artworks they created. Finesse brings to you the prize-winning entries from the event. |
